From Dr. Schmitt’s Warrior Wisdom today:
I’m certain all of you are excited about the end of the year, but we have a teacher who is not only ending the school year, he is ending his 33-year career at Lincoln-Way—Coach Mark Ruettiger. Did you know that he is still considered one of the best high school wrestlers of all-time in Illinois? (It’s true!!) Did you know that he was the first 4-time state wrestling champion in Illinois history? (Quite a claim to fame!) He was inducted into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1995.
Those of you who have been in Coach Rudy’s class or have been coached by him know that he is a man of very few words. Those of us who have worked with Coach Rudy will miss his wit, humor and friendly “hello” in the hallways. Rudy has been a mentor and friend to many. He’s taught students and adults about physical education, wrestling and teaching, but more importantly, he’s taught us how to be good people. In the words of Mark Ruettiger, “Thank You.”
